The following is being sent on behalf of Lidia Uziel and Chizu Morihara, UCSB Library
Dear Colleagues,
The University of California Libraries are implementing limited systemwide adjustments to shared licensed collections and content in response to ongoing budget reductions across the UC system. These measures are necessary to contain costs, maintain essential scholarly resources, and ensure the long-term strength of the UC Libraries’ collective investment in supporting research and teaching across the University of California.
At the same time, the UC Santa Barbara Library has made a firm commitment to protect its local collections budget during this fiscal year. There will be no reductions to UCSB locally funded resources in FY 2025–26. The adjustments currently underway apply only to systemwide shared collections that are jointly funded and managed across all UC campuses through the California Digital Library (CDL) and UC Libraries’ collaborative programs.
More information about these changes—including a list of affected titles, guidance on alternative access options, and contact information—is available on the UCSB Library’s dedicated information page: UC Libraries Budget Reductions and Collections Updates
If you experience difficulty accessing materials or need assistance finding alternatives, please contact the Collection Strategies Department at library-collections@ucsb.edu, reach out to a Subject Librarian, or connect with us through Ask a Librarian.
If you have questions or feedback about these systemwide budget reductions or related collections changes, please contact Lidia Uziel, Associate University Librarian for Research Resources and Scholarly Communication (uziel@ucsb.edu) and Chizu Morihara, Director of Collection Strategies (cmorihara@ucsb.edu). We will be happy to meet with you individually or in a group setting to discuss these changes in more detail.
Thank you for your understanding and continued partnership as we work together to sustain access to essential scholarly resources across the UC system.
Warm regards,
Lidia Uziel, Associate University Librarian for Research Resources & Scholarly Communication
Chizu Morihara, Director of Collection Strategies
