Dear Colleagues,

As always, we hope you are safe and well.

Updates from the Instructional Support Team:

Web-Based Alternative for Specialized Software: Collaborate now has a web-based alternative for delivery of the software typically available in our physical computer labs. Using the Amazon Web Services Product called AppStream, we can provide instructors & students with remote access to these applications. Instructors who need this remote access please email help@collaborate.ucsb.edu and mention AppStream. Please include all required software package(s) needed for Fall. The deadline for submission is September 18.

Campus Core Router Migration Work Continues: We have reached a major milestone for installation for the core router migration project. On August 27 from midnight to 8 a.m., the entire campus will have a network outage as we perform a major migration.

Zoom down? Google Meet is available to all UCSB users. In the event of a protracted outage, or disruption, to Zoom service, you can schedule basic class video meetings or office hours using Google Meet as a “Plan B” option. This video provides basic instructions. Once you set up a Google Meet, you can provide your class the URL via GauchoSpace or email.

Set Up An Office Hour Appointment Scheduler in Shoreline:  You can use Shoreline to set up an appointment scheduler for your office hours to make it easy for students to book an appointment. The Shoreline Scheduler is synchronized with your UCSB Google Calendar. Instructions for setting up a scheduler in Shoreline are available at: https://vimeo.com/398080908

Pre-Instructional Workshops for Fall:  Do you want to learn more about designing and teaching effective and compelling remote courses? We’ll hold a series of workshops beginning September 8 for all instructors, including (but not limited to):

  • Creating Community In Online Courses
