In February, after Academic Personnel Director June Randrup Betancourt was appointed to a new position of Director of Policy Compliance for Academic Affairs, we launched a national search for an Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel. I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Leesa Beck has been selected to fill this important position, effective May 1, 2024.

Leesa Beck has a doctorate in Education from the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education, an MBA from Pepperdine University, with an emphasis in Dispute Resolution, and a BA from Cornell University. She has served as Director of Summer Sessions since 2019, and prior to that she was the University Registrar for seven years. Leesa has a strong record of administrative leadership and organizational skills, experience with Academic Personnel, and an extensive knowledge of our campus after working at UC Santa Barbara for 18 years.

I am grateful to June Betancourt for her many contributions to our AP office, as well as to Helly Kwee, Associate Director of Academic Personnel, for her service as Interim Director. I thank the search committee, chaired by Dana Mastro, Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel, which included Pierre Wiltzius, Executive Dean of the College of Letters and Science and Dean of Science; Leila Rupp, Interim Dean of Graduate Division; Ariana Alvarez, Title IX Officer and Director of the Title IX and Sexual Harassment Policy Compliance Office; Sydney Roberts, Director of Employee and Labor Relations, Human Resources; Dorothy Satomi, Director of Finance and Administration for Academic Affairs; and Christian Villaseñor, Executive Director for Academic Affairs.
