Instructional Support Team Update: Wednesday 3/25
GAUCHOCAST SERVER MIGRATION is still underway. The server should be at least partially back online by Wednesday late morning or early afternoon with additional session metadata flowing in for several more hours afterwards.
IMPORTANT: GauchoSpace update. GauchoSpace will be unavailable Thursday, March 26 from 6 am to 2 pm for systems updates and maintenance. More info about the update here.
Faculty Help Lines: Instructional Development and Collaborate are working together to provide a single point of contact for faculty needing help with any of the campus educational technologies including: GauchoSpace, GauchoCast/Panopto, Instructional Use of Zoom, Gradescope, Google Assignment, UCSB Write-Learn, etc. All help requests will funnel through the existing Collaborate Helpdesk and then passed on to the appropriate personnel who are experts in each system. We are still ironing out the details, but hope to have more information and direct links available by late Thursday or Friday morning.
Student Resources: COMPREHENSIVE STUDENT HELP SITE. https://keeplearning.id.ucsb.edu/ is a comprehensive site to provide student assistance with remote learning: access, strategies, time management, access to resources, and more. The site has been compiled by representatives from the Office of Undergraduate Education (Transfer and ONDAS Centers, Undergraduate Mentoring, CITRAL ,and more) and Student Affairs (CLAS, EOP, and more.) The site is still being populated, but is ready to go. Faculty and TAs can link to it from courses.
TA resources: By Wed, 3/25, we will have a new tutorial designed to help TAs learn strategies for online teaching and technologies that support these approaches. Within this tutorial will be opportunities for TAs to practice using the technologies and to ask questions. The new tutorial will be linked on the Instructional Continuity Site and announced on Grad Post. TAs can get up to speed on GauchoCast and Zoom by joining the self-guided “Teaching with GauchoCast and Zoom” GauchoSpace site.
Drop-in hours with Mindy Colin, Lisa Berry, Linda Adler-Kassner, and Maggie Safronova are posted on this calendar, which is part of the Instructional Continuity Site. We will add drop in hours through next week and each week of the term as needed.
UCTV has a great deal of potentially useful content, including lectures and other videos by UCSB (and other UC) faculty.
We appreciate everyone’s considerable energy and efforts during this challenging time. We’ll be back with an update later this week.
Best,
The Instructional Support Team
