Publish Open Access in Springer Journals
As of January 4, UC authors can publish open access in the Springer portion of the Springer Nature portfolio of journals. The integration of Nature-branded journals is expected in 2022. Learn more about the agreement. Contact openaccess@library.ucsb.edu with any questions.
Be a Part of the UCSB Reads 2021 Community
UCSB Reads 2021 is underway, kicking off with the student book giveaway. This year’s selection, When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir by Patrisse Cullors and asha bandele, provides an intersectional analysis of the Black Lives Matter movement and demonstrates the connection between history, lived experience, and the necessity for present-day activism.

Encourage Students to Document Their Experiences for Our Archive
What should future generations of Gauchos know about the lived experiences of current students during this time of COVID-19 and racial reckoning? The Library is developing an exhibition showcasing works submitted to our COVID-19 Community Archives Project and Black Lives Matter Community Archives Project. We encourage classes to submit coursework to the archives. If you are interested in integrating this project into your course, please write to us at outreach@library.ucsb.edu.

Access Geospatial & Research Data Software Remotely
The Interdisciplinary Research Collaboratory is offering remote access to some of our geospatial and research data software thanks to Microsoft, who provided Azure service credits to experiment with remote computer access. We can provide you with Windows 10 virtual machines via Microsoft Azure Labs, pre-loaded with software previously available in our physical lab in the Library. Learn more about this service.
