Dear Colleagues,

Here’s this week’s update from the Instructional Support Team

Reminder: Upcoming Network Outage, February 24, 2021, from 12:01-7:30 a.m
On Wednesday February 24, 2021, from 12:01-7:30 a.m., ETS will continue network migration work, replacing the 535-d1 North Hall core. This will impact most network services on campus, including access to GauchoSpace.

ETS will continue to update the status via email, at it.ucsb.edu, status.ucsb.edu, and on the UCSB IT LinkedIn and Twitter pages. Please note that you can subscribe to status.ucsb.edu to receive UCSB service impact notices.

GauchoSpace Grading Tips
As Winter quarter wraps up and instructors begin building their Spring courses we encourage instructors and TAs to look over this guide on helpful tips for grading and using the gradebook in GauchoSpace. If you have any questions or would like one on one help please email help@collaborate.ucsb.edu

GauchoSpace Workshops - February 22nd-25th
Workshop offerings for efficient grading of Assignments and Quizzes and facilitating dialogue using Forums and Blogs, RSVP here. A recording of each workshop will be available on the GauchoSpace YouTube channel

In Preparation for Spring
Media Equipment can loan teaching equipment to instructors and TAs

Send an email to help@id.ucsb.edu and specify “Equipment Loan” in the subject line for fastest response. The equipment available includes headset microphones, webcams, document cameras, and a limited number of USB tablet interfaces for computers.

GE and Course Outcomes in GauchoSpace
Beginning in Spring 2021 GauchoSpace sites for all courses will have a Course Info block. If the course fulfills GE requirements in one or more areas, the block will include a link to the GE area outcomes that the course fulfills. There also will be a section to display specific course level outcomes so that they are accessible for students. For questions about course level outcomes (GE and/or non-GE) contact Linda Adler-Kassner (ladler@ucsb.edu) .

On Campus Remote Teaching Spaces for Faculty, TAs and Teaching Associates
The Library, Instructional Development, Office of the Registrar, and the Executive Vice Chancellor’s Office have partnered to make spaces in the Library and in HSSB available for instructors who require a private, quiet space with reliable wireless or wired networking in order to conduct remote teaching sessions. Reservations for the use of these spaces for Spring Quarter will be open at 8:00 AM on March 15 via the following pages:

Library - https://libcal.library.ucsb.edu/reserve/library
HSSB - https://libcal.library.ucsb.edu/reserve/hssb

Please pay close attention to the information about technology available in each space to ensure that the space that you reserve meets your needs. If you will use any of the HSSB classrooms and plan on using the installed classroom computer instead of your own laptop, please send an email to id-mediakeys@ucsb.edu as soon as possible to obtain login credentials for a classroom computer.

We hope your weeks are going well - more next week!

Best,
The Instructional Support Team
