Dear Colleagues,

This week’s IS updates include workshops, a call for the Fall 2021 UCSB Teaching Symposium, and a RISE reminder.

GauchoSpace Feedback Activity

The Feedback activity in GauchoSpace is a useful tool for eliciting informative student feedback about your course. The Feedback activity is anonymous by default but can also be set to record student names. Feedback questions can be both multiple choice or free response, for more information on using and setting up the Feedback activity refer to this guide. The Office of Instructional Consultation has also made templates available for the Feedback activity which can be set up through the steps here

GauchoSpace Spring Workshops May 13-20th

The GauchoSpace team will be holding workshops on analytics and completion progress and how to set up a gradebook. Learn how your students are interacting and progressing through your course by using the built in analytics and completion progress tools in GauchoSpace. Learn how to set up a gradebook in GauchoSpace to align with your course syllabus and reduce emails from students. RSVP for workshops here.

Call for Proposals: UCSB Teaching Symposium!

UCSB Engaging Teaching Symposium II: Looking Back to Move Forward

Dates: Wednesdays and Fridays Oct 6–22, 2021 (via Zoom, with in-person components)

Link to more information and application

During the past year, instructors and TAs have implemented new strategies for reaching learners, cultivating community, redesigning assessments, and more. The Engaging Teaching Symposium invites instructors and graduate students to submit talks, workshops, or other activities to engage others in reflecting on these activities: what we tried, what “worked” or “didn’t work,” and how it might inform our teaching in the upcoming quarters.

Blending and Flipping your Class into Fall: June 2, 3-4pm, PST

This year you've expanded your teaching skills in new (and sometimes time-consuming) ways! You've created lots of videos, found new ways of communicating with students, and used online assignments to keep students engaged and on-task. Now that UCSB will return to in-person classes, how can you remix your digital learning materials into a manageable, engaging, in-person Fall class?

In this flipped workshop, you'll work with Instructional Development and your peers to blend online and in-person instruction for your Fall course.

RSVP for the workshop here
