Re: | Ocean Walk at North Campus - Faculty Housing Update |
I am very pleased to report to you that the first phase, 22 homes, of our newest faculty housing development, Ocean Walk is planned to be under construction before the end of June. The construction bids on the project were very successful and the campus has awarded the bid to C.W. Driver Construction, a long established California-based firm. Construction of this first phase is expected to be complete in less than a year. Attached to this memorandum are a site plan and a rendered aerial of the first 22 units.
Under the auspices of the newly established Interim Board of the University Community Housing Authority, a sales office will be set up on site and staffing will be provided by John Gaffney. Marketing materials are currently in development as well as a web page for your convenience. You will be notified as soon as they are available.
The start of construction of Ocean Walk is significant progress in achieving our objective of providing affordable, quality homes for our faculty. These first 22 units are only the beginning of our effort to build 161 new faculty homes on North Campus. Subsequent phases will be based on lessons learned with these first 22. The Chancellor and I want to thank everyone who has been working hard to make this a reality and everyone who has been patiently waiting to purchase a new home. My office is working on updating the waiting list and will be working with the Interim Board of the University Community Housing Authority on rules needed to allow sales to proceed. More detailed information on sales will be distributed as it comes available.
I know we all look forward to welcoming the first occupants of Ocean Walk.
