Re: UCSB Reads 2012 - MOONWALKING WITH EINSTEIN: THE AIR AND SCIENCE OF REMEMBERING EVERYTHING

Greetings,

The Library is excited to announce the selection of a book for UCSB Reads 2013— MOONWALKING WITH EINSTEIN: THE ART AND SCIENCE OF REMEMBERING EVERYTHING by Joshua Foer (Penguin, 2011).

MOONWALKING WITH EINSTEIN is an entertaining and illuminating book of literary journalism. Bringing together cognitive science, cultural history, Classics, and philosophy, it takes a fresh cross-disciplinary look at human memory, while exploring the meaning of education and expertise. There is a 20-minute TED talk by Joshua Foer at http://www.ted.com/talks/joshua_foer_feats_of_memory_anyone_can_do.html

The author will give a free public lecture in Campbell Hall on March 4, 2013 . During the winter quarter, the UCSB Library--along with the Santa Barbara Public Library and Santa Barbara City College--will sponsor numerous book-related and thematic events and activities leading up to the author's visit. Will you consider engaging the themes of the book in public panels on campus and around the city, especially as they relate to your research and teaching? Or incorporating the book into your winter quarter courses in any way? The Library has free advance copies of the book to distribute now to any faculty expressing such interest; contact:

The Library would like to thank the dedicated faculty and staff Advisory Committee for reading and considering a long list of books this summer, and looks forward to working with all of you in the coming months to make the seventh annual UCSB Reads the best one yet!
