Associate Vice Chancellor John Talbott has decided to retire at the end of this academic year after five years as Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel and forty-four years as a professor in the Department of History. We thank him for his thoughtful and energetic leadership of the office that oversees the appointment, advancement, and retention of our faculty.

In addition to his work as AVC, Jack Talbott’s extensive record of service at UCSB includes appointments as Chair of the Department of History and Chair and Vice Chair of the Committee on Academic Personnel. We are very grateful for his outstanding service and we wish him the very best.
After consultation with the Academic Senate and our administrative colleagues, we are pleased to announce the formation of an advisory search committee, to be chaired by Professor Andy Teel.
