Director of Summer Sessions

Cindy Bumgarner, the Director of Summer Sessions, is leaving UC Santa Barbara to become Chief of Staff to the Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education at UC Berkeley. Associate Vice Chancellor Carl Gutiérrez-Jones and I both want to express our great appreciation for her many contributions to the campus. Dr. Bumgarner joined the campus in 2011 as Assistant Dean for Instruction and Technology for Summer Sessions, and subsequently served as Acting Director of Summer Sessions. She was appointed Director of Summer Sessions three years ago. We are grateful for her leadership, professionalism, and creativity in overseeing our summer curricula and launching innovative on-line pilot courses. Although we are sorry to see her go, we congratulate her on her an exciting new professional opportunity.

We are pleased that Dr. James Ford, currently Associate Director of Summer Sessions, has agreed to serve as Acting Director. Prior to his appointment as Associate Director in September of 2014, Dr. Ford worked in Letters and Science Instructional Technology and in the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education, from which he has a doctorate in Education with an Educational Technology Emphasis. We will be forming a search committee soon to fill the Director position.
