Dear Colleagues,
The Instructional Support team is looking forward to a lively Fall quarter. As you put together your course materials and courses, some resources that may be helpful for you:
Instructional FAQs
Visit the Keepteaching Fall 2021 FAQs for recently updated information on providing students access to lectures, IP concerns, masking questions and other Covid 19-related teaching questions.
Syllabus Language: COVID-related Policies and More!
Visit the Keepteaching “Create a Syllabus page” to customize the UCSB syllabus template and sample syllabus language for your course. The sample syllabus language was compiled by CITRAL and Instructional Development and includes faculty examples for syllabus policies, including language about Covid (masking, etc), academic honesty, DSP, food security, class community and more. If you’d like to add additional language, please contribute via this form. We welcome your contributions!
Build Community in Your Courses
Being part of an academic community is a hallmark of a university experience. As we return to in-person learning, it may be helpful to be even more intentional about building community among students. Visit KeepTeaching’s updated list of strategies for building class community for some potentially useful ideas.
Senate September Town Hall
If you missed the Academic Senate’s early September Town Hall focusing on back-to-campus, the recording is now available.
Workshops
A reminder that Instructional Development and CITRAL still have many pre-Fall workshops this week, continuing through September 21! Check the schedule and register to join the discussions.
Microphones for Teaching
All of the larger general assignment classrooms are equipped with PA systems and microphones. Additionally, Instructional Development (ID) has more than 100 microphones that can be loaned to instructors and TAs for Fall quarter (e.g. headset microphones, USB mics, wearable headset mic/speaker) available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please Email ID with your assigned classroom so that we can provide you with the best possible microphone solution to borrow or to purchase on your own for your teaching space.
Masks will be available at “Ask Me” kiosks around campus.
GauchoSpace Quarterly Downtime September 16th 6am-12pm: GauchoSpace will be unavailable on Thursday September 16th from 6am-12pm PDT for quarterly maintenance.
Questions about using GauchoSpace? GauchoSpace support is available by emailing help@collaborate.ucsb.edu for all GauchoSpace related questions. One on one support is also available to be scheduled Monday-Friday 10am-4pm.
We’ll be back with more in the coming weeks. We hope to see you soon!
