Dear Colleagues,

As we get ready for the first day of Fall quarter,  a few updates from the Instructional Support Team

Schedule a Classroom “meet-and-greet”to get familiar with your classroom

Make an appointment to visit before Fall quarter begins to get acquainted with the classroom and its technology (including lecture capture) by emailing help@id.ucsb.edu with your classroom building and room number.

Masking

  • Please see the KeepTeaching page for masking FAQs
  • Student Affairs is setting up “Ask me: I’m here to help” kiosks across campus where students can pick up free masks.
  • If you’re concerned about hearing students’ questions through their masks, consider moving closer to the student or asking them to speak loudly.  Please be sure to repeat student questions so that other students in the class can hear and so that it can be heard on the Panopto/GauchoCast recording (if you are recording the class).
  • As of 9/16/21, UCSB Student Health officials have approved masks with a see-through plastic portion for your mouth (Ex 1, Ex 2). All masks must fit around the nose and mouth and have at least 2 cloth layers. Face shields with drop cloths are not currently approved.

Need help?

We will continue to update UCSB KeepTeaching website throughout the quarter to adapt to instructor questions and evolving information. If you can’t find what you are looking for, email help@collaborate.ucsb.edu.

Instructor/Faculty-Student Lunches

The Transitions Office and Office of Undergraduate Education are sponsoring Lunch with a Student! Click on this lunch spreadsheet to select a day and a specific dining commons (beginning week 2). You may sign up for two lunches during Fall quarter. Lunch is complimentary for you and will take place from 12-1pm. List your name, department, and mail code in the slot that works best for you and we will send you a Dining Commons ticket through campus mail. Click here to find your mail code. When you arrive at your selected Dining Commons, locate the outdoor eating area and look for the reserved table marked “Lunch with a Prof.” If you are teaching undergraduate students during fall, you are encouraged to invite students in your class(es) to join you for this lunch. Here is an email template that you can use to do so. Your lunch date will also be announced to students in the Residence Halls. Contact Yasmine Dominguez-Whitehead (ywhitehead@ucsb.edu) with any questions.

We look forward to seeing everyone in 3-D!
