Canvas Discussions/Announcements Redesign

Canvas’ Discussion feature will have a new updated design starting in Summer 2024 courses. Highlights include: 

  • A flexible viewing interface with options to view replies inline or in a split screen as well as expanded or collapsed. 
  • An option for instructors to allow Anonymous discussion posts by students
  • The ability to “mention” and quote replies

Course Site Creation in Canvas for Summer and Fall 2024 Courses

Course site creation for Summer Sessions 2024 is now available for individuals who are listed as instructors of record by accessing the UCSB Tools menu in Canvas. If you are an Instructor of Record or expect to be teaching in the Summer and do not see a course you expect to teach, please contact your department administrator to get listed as an instructor with the Registrar.

Students and TAs are added to Canvas from the Registrar data when course sites are created, but a Canvas site needs to be published in order for students to receive notifications for announcements. 

We will enable course site creation for Fall 20224 courses on May 20, 2024.
