Re: Associate Dean and Faculty Equity Advisors

I am pleased to announce that the Deans have appointed Associate Deans to serve as Faculty Equity Advisors. The Offices of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Equal Opportunity and Discrimination Prevention, and Academic Personnel, in consultation with the Academic Senate, the Deans, and Academic Affairs, and with support from the Chancellor, worked together to delineate the portfolio of these new positions, which parallel comparable positions on most UC campuses.

Each Associate Dean and Faculty Equity Advisor (FEA) appointed by the Dean is an Academic Senate faculty member committed to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion in all arenas of the university. Following the priorities of the Dean, the FEA will work with the Dean, Associate Deans, and the staff in the Dean’s office to advise and support departmental efforts to enhance equity, diversity, and inclusion in such areas as faculty recruitment, faculty advancement and retention, and community building.

Faculty Equity Advisors will help departments and search committees understand relevant federal and state laws and university policies, as well as best practices in hiring. Working with departments to help them develop their vision and goals for equity, diversity, and inclusion, they will serve as liaisons between the Dean’s office and the Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, who will regularly convene all seven Faculty Equity Advisors, help to coordinate common goals and programs, and work with the FEA’s, Academic Personnel, and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Discrimination Prevention on trainings, workshops, and other programs.

We all look forward to seeing this important program develop in partnership with faculty, staff, and administrative colleagues. Thank you.
