The following is being sent on behalf of the Instructional Support Team
********************************************************************************

As we move into final exams, reminders from the IS team about exams, DSP accommodations, eGrades, and Winter 2023 course sites. We also re-copy a reminder sent via the EVC’s office last night regarding Fall quarter grading.

Collaborate questions: If you would like to consult with Collaborate on any aspects of instructional design, final exams, or technical support, email help@collaborate.ucsb.edu.

Online exams: If you are offering an online final in GauchoSpace or Canvas, please review the recommendations here. DSP accommodations for exams in Gauchospace can be input through the steps here. Accommodations for Canvas can be input through the steps here

For students with DSP accommodations: If you are offering an online final without a proctor, please be sure to adjust the time limit in Gauchospace or Canvas for students that have sent their Letter of Accommodation to you. If there is no time limit for your exam (final paper, essay, take home exam, etc.), you do not need to do anything. If your exams are going to take place in person or online with a DSP proctor, please complete the proctor request in the DSP Services Portal. Click here for instructions.  If you have any questions, email testproctor@sa.ucsb.edu.

Submit a request for consultation if you would like to discuss final exam options with an Office of Teaching and Learning instructional consultant.

Reminder: If you aren’t able to submit grades by December 19:

  • Leave the grade blank. This will be converted into “No Grade” (or “NG”) by the Registrar’s Office. Faculty can then go in and replace the NG with a grade by the end of Winter quarter.
  • Faculty can request that the EGrades window be re-opened so that grades can be entered later.
Incomplete grades are appropriate only for students who have completed the majority of work in the course and have made arrangements to complete missing work.

NOTE that if a student requiring a grade does not receive one, an official from the appropriate college (Letters and Science, CCS, or CoE) will be in touch with the faculty member to obtain a grade.

eGrades Grade Import for GauchoSpace and Canvas: Instructors now have the option to import a grade file from Canvas by selecting the ‘Import Canvas File’ option in eGrades. If importing a grade file from GauchoSpace or downloaded from eGrades, instructors should select ‘Import Legacy File.’ Full instructions for importing grades from GauchoSpace can be found at this help page and for Canvas at this help page.

GauchoSpace and Canvas Winter 2023 Course Sites: For Winter 2023, course sites will not be automatically created. To create your Winter 2023 course sites in either GauchoSpace or Canvas, log in to GauchoSpace and use the UCSB Site Creator Block on the right side of your GauchoSpace Dashboard and click on the green + sign to create your course site. You will be prompted with the option to create your course site in either GauchoSpace or Canvas. More information can be found here
