Dear Faculty,
In response to the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, the National Science Foundation (NSF) has amended their grants policies. For all NSF proposals submitted or due on or after July 31, 2023, Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RECR) training is required, at time of award, for all undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and other senior personnel who will be supported by NSF to conduct research.
This new NSF requirement updates their existing RECR policy by expanding the training requirement to faculty and other senior personnel. Additionally, the new requirement mandates that the RECR training includes mentor training and mentorship.
Important details:
- Updated RECR training will be provided through CITI Program (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative).
- Training must be completed within 60 days of notification by the Office of Research. Refresher training is required every five years for all faculty and other senior personnel actively supported by an NSF grant.
- Mentorship of trainees is critical for the development of future researchers. Faculty are encouraged to incorporate discussions on the responsible and ethical conduct of research into their mentorship activities.
- Please consult the Office of Research Responsible Conduct of Research webpage for more information and resources.
Thank you,
Joe
