Re: | Director of Summer Sessions |
I am pleased to announce that Dr. Cindy Bumgarner has agreed to serve as the Director of Summer Sessions, effective May 6, 2013.
Dr. Bumgarner has done an excellent job as Acting Director of Summer Sessions since September 2012. Prior to taking on this role, she served as Assistant Dean for Instruction and Technology for the Office of Summer Sessions. In this capacity, she continued the innovative work initiated by her predecessor, Dr. Carol Pasternack, to bring the first fully online courses offered in Summer 2012. Additionally, she has designed and implemented the assessment and evaluation plan for those courses, and is a leader of the campus Online Pilot Project in Summer, now in its second phase.
Dr. Bumgarner received her Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, Bloomington; a Master’s in German from CSU, Fullerton; and her Doctorate in Educational Technology from Pepperdine University. Her professional background shows a focus on teaching, research, and developing academic programs, with an emphasis on understanding the impact of technology-enhanced instruction on learning. Before coming to UC Santa Barbara, Dr. Bumgarner served as a Lecturer, Technology Advisor, and Director of the Multimedia Language Learning Center at CSU, Chico. In addition, she was an active member of Chico’s Academic Senate, serving twice as Vice Chair.
Please join me in extending our warmest congratulations to Dr. Bumgarner.
