March 18, 2020
As indicated in the Chancellor's memo of this afternoon, the Library will be closing our building to patrons tomorrow at 6 pm.
We know that the Library is an important campus service for students and faculty and that loss of access to the Library building will have a significant impact on all of you. Library staff will do everything possible to support you in providing remote instruction during this emergency period.
Faculty will have card access to the building 8-5 M-F to drop off course reserve materials to be scanned and to pick up ILL books. (ILL service is likely to be disrupted, however, due to the majority of other research libraries also being closed.)
To support remote instruction, Library staff will scan and place on course reserves portions of personal copies of books or our print collections.
Several publishers and databases are opening up their collections during this emergency. We will link to those resources from the Library's Remote Resources & Services for UCSB Library Users webpage.
More resources and links will be added as they become available. For example, the HathiTrust is currently reviewing its policies, systems, and service guidelines to plan for potential emergency service offerings. We also can offer advice about how to make materials available and accessible for students.
Librarians and other library staff are working remotely and available to help. Please feel free to contact your liaison librarian with your needs and we will do our best to meet them.
Thank you.
