Dear Instructors,
In preparation for Winter quarter, you are invited to our General Assignment Classrooms Open House on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. During this time, all General Assignment classrooms will be open for you to explore, test out the A/V equipment, and get hands-on experience with the setups. This is an opportunity for both new and returning instructors to get familiarized with the technology to ensure a smooth start to the quarter.
The Instructional Development Classroom Services Team will be available during this time to assist with any A/V questions you may have.
- You can call (805) 893-3549 or visit 1160 Kerr Hall.
- If your class is held at the ILP, please contact (805) 893-6102 or stop by the ILP Tech Office at 3302 ILP.
- If you would like to schedule an alternative date and time prior to the first day of instruction, please email help@id.ucsb.edu to arrange an appointment.
What’s New in the Classrooms:
- Sign-In with Your UCSBnetID: Starting Winter Quarter, you can sign in to General Assignment classroom lectern computers using your UCSBnetID credentials—no more trips to the Instructional Development office to create or reset lectern logins! If you'd like to confirm that your account has these permissions to sign into the lectern computers, please reach out to help@id.ucsb.edu or call (805) 893-3549.
- Keyless Operation: All A/V systems in General Assignment classrooms are now keyless. Classroom equipment will unlock 30 minutes before your scheduled class, allowing you to access the equipment without a lectern key. Equipment in the rooms will lock after the last class of the day, unless previously arranged.
- Height-Adjustable Lecterns: In response to instructor feedback, 56% of all GA classrooms now feature height-adjustable lecterns, with plans to upgrade remaining classroom lecterns in the coming years.
- Lectern Equipment Virtual Tutorial: If you can’t make it to the Open House, please review our new videos on lectern operations here.
Upcoming Upgrades:
- Wireless Microphone: Throughout the Winter and Spring Quarter, rooms with seating for 75 or more will all be upgraded to wireless microphones. We ask for your help to return microphones to their chargers after use to keep them ready for the next instructor.
We encourage you to bring any devices you plan to use in your classes, such as laptops or tablets, and drop by your assigned classroom on January 3rd. For the most up-to-date information on using the lecterns and other classroom resources, please refer to the Campus Classrooms Website at: https://classrooms.ucsb.edu.
Thank you.
