The request process outlined below should only be used for approved courses, in-person instructional laboratories and performance/studio courses. To be considered for an exception, Dean’s approval is also required so please contact your Dean to confirm support before submitting materials.

Please submit your requests for Summer by May 24, 2021.

California Public Health Officials Release Guidance on Higher Education - Updated September 30, 2020.

Department Space Used for Instruction

If in-person classes are permitted by State and County health guidelines, departments may be able to teach in departmentally-controlled spaces. However, these spaces will need to be reviewed and modified to meet safety requirements. Adjustments will likely include reduced seating capacity, revised furniture placement, ventilation additions such as keeping windows and/or doors open during classes, breaks of 45 minutes or more between classes and increased cleaning frequency.

The work group has created a template and an on-line submission process to help departments seek approval to use departmentally-controlled instructional space. Please see the following description and links.
