Evaluation Rubrics for Diversity Statements
Please keep in mind that the evaluation of Diversity Statements occurs in the context of the specified requirements and qualifications of the advertised position. Statements should elucidate how the experiences, values, and vision of the candidate enhance the campus mission to educate a student body that reflects the diverse demographics of California as specified in the guidelines provided to applicants (for one example see GGSE Diversity Statement Guidelines). We strongly encourage Search Committees to develop and utilize a rubric when evaluating the applicant’s Diversity Statement. The rubric provided here serves as a template that should be customized for each individual search. Note that the suggested categories are not necessarily independent from each other and often overlap or are complementary. Although evidence of past contributions to inclusive excellence are preferable to statements of intention, statements may describe relevant experiences and prospective plans.
